Bentonite Cat Litter Usage

Choose the right litter tray:

Make sure the litter tray is large enough for your cat to turn around and scoop the litter easily. The general recommendation is 1.5 times the length of the cat.

A single litter tray is sufficient; bentonite clay cat litter does not require a double tray.

Consider open or closed (cat litter box). Open is easy for cats to get in and out and clean, but odour and litter carry-out may be higher; closed helps to control odour and litter, but requires more diligent cleaning of the interior and some cats do not like the closed feel.

Cleaning the litter tray:

New Basin: Wash thoroughly with mild detergent and water and dry completely before first use.

OLD POTS FOR LITTER: Before pouring in new litter, be sure to empty the old litter thoroughly and use a pet-safe disinfectant or diluted bleach (rinse thoroughly and air dry!) Clean the basin to remove residual stains and odours. Residual odours may cause your cat to refuse to use it.

Pour in bentonite clay cat litter:

Place the clean, dry litter tray in a quiet, private area that is easily accessible to your cat and away from food and water bowls.

Pour in a sufficient amount of bentonite clay litter. CRITICAL THICKNESS: It is recommended to spread 5-8cm (approximately 2-3 inches) thick. Too thin will result in poor clumping and urine will tend to seep to the bottom and stick to the bowl; too thick will waste litter and may be uncomfortable for your cat to dig up.
